President Barzani issued a statement today regarding the nomination process for the position of the President of Iraq. The President commences the statement by saying that he would have preferred if the Kurdistan blocs would have collectively agreed on nominating one candidate for the position, unfortunately, that did not happen. The statement goes on to make reference to the selection process of a Kurdistan Democratic Party candidate for the position and that the Politburo of the KDP had tasked the President to choose a candidate. President Barzani then selected Dr. Fuad Hussein, the statement says.
President Barzani’s statement goes on to note that Dr. Fuad Hussein has had a great role in the Kurdish cause starting from the September Revolution (1961-1975) and later phases of his life up to the stage where he worked as the Chief of Staff at the Kurdistan Region Presidency. The statement also adds that the President will support Dr. Fuad Hussein in the upcoming process and wished him success.
