On Thursday, March 12, 2026, a phone call took place between President Masoud Barzani and Mr. Tom Barrack, President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Syria and the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey.

During the exchange, Mr. Barrack conveyed President Donald Trump’s greetings to President Barzani and thanked him for his wise leadership in leading the region and protecting its stability, security and developments.
Mr. Barack reaffirmed that the United States continue to look at Kurdistan region as an ally and friend and will continue close coordination with the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, the special envoy underscored the importance of the Kurdistan region and Iraq as important pillars of the region and in these complex circumstances, the United States will continue to support both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region government to find resolution for the outstanding issues, in a manner that serves the interests of both sides across all sectors.

President Barzani thanked President Trump and expressed his respect and gratitude. He also thanked Mr. Barrack for his constructive and influential role.

President Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region always work on enhancing further stability for the whole region and have firm belief in democracy, coexistence, and dialogue. Further, President Barzani underscored that the Kurdistan Region is always part of the solution and never been or will be part of any problem.

President Barzani briefed the special envoy on the recent outrageous attacks on Kurdistan region by some-outlawed armed groups.
Both sides agreed on the importance of keeping the Kurdistan Region and Iraq away from the ongoing conflict and ensuring their protection and stability.
