President Masoud Barzani received U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Taylor and her accompanying delegation in Salahaddin on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Deputy Assistant Secretary underscored the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation to promote stability and development in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.
The two sides also discussed the political situation in Iraq, Syria, and the broader region, exchanging views on key challenges facing the peace process in Turkey, the current status and future of Kurdish political parties in Syria, and their relations with the emerging Syrian government.
Another key topic of discussion was the relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq. Both parties emphasized the importance of coordination and constructive dialogue to address outstanding issues and overcome ongoing obstacles.
The meeting also covered the ongoing talks between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), including efforts to advance the formation of the new cabinet.
